Services
Dusting is the first step in any proper cleaning of an area rug.
It is necessary to remove all of the dry particulate soil that we can utilize our Rug Badger.
The Rug Badger creates thousands of vibration every minute from the back side of the rug knocking dirt through our screen and then can be easily vacuumed off both the front and back.
Sometimes rug dusting is done 2-3 times depending on the amount of soil and hair accumulated.
We have seen an 8 x 10 area rug dump out 10 pounds of dirt and sand.
Many of the rugs that we clean have most commonly been marked by a pet.
Please do not be embarrassed about a urine contaminated rug.
It is a natural territorial instinct for a dog to urinate on a wool area rug, not that it can't be stopped with discipline.
The wool rug is the fiber of another animal and is seen as an intruder into the home.
Area rugs with pet urine need to be treated as soon as possible to keep the urine from causing irreversible damage of the fiber and backing.
A good dusting and full immersion in a rug bath is needed to rinse out the urine salts.
The foundation or backing of natural rugs is a concern as many are made of jute.
The mold will penetrate fibers and quickly eat away until it is considered to be "dry rot, " an irreversible condition.
The natural face fiber of the rug are just as susceptible to mold and rot, however cotton is extremely vulnerable.
Hence, it is never advisable to place a natural area rug on a concrete floor.
Concrete never really dries and the moisture content changes in certain climates with the humidity.
A good quality rug pad from our shop will deter mold growth on the back of your area rug.
Moths are the general culprits here because they are attracted to the Keratin that is found in natural wool fibers.
They are more attracted to dirty fibers, so it is always a good idea to keep a rug as clean as possible.
It is when they are in the larvae state when they love the keratin.
So when moth season is in full swing the moths will lay the larvae for the next hatch.
You will not really notice them until you start seeing the wool fibers of your rug disappearing, or appear to be wearing down to nothing.
